NUDOR and Miracle Corners Rwanda Strengthen Collaboration for Disability Inclusion in Technical Skills and Employment Opportunities

NUDOR AND MIRACLE CORNERS RWANDA TO STRENGTHEN COLLABORATION IN ADVOCATING FOR THE INCLUSION OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES IN ACCESSING THE TECHNICAL SKILLS AND EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES.

In a significant step towards promoting disability inclusion and fostering economic empowerment, the National Union of Disability Organization in Rwanda (NUDOR) and Miracle Corners Rwanda (MCR) have joined forces to advocate for the inclusion of persons with disabilities in accessing technical skills and employment opportunities.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at NUDOR headquarters, signifies a commitment to collaborative efforts in building the capacity of youth with disabilities. Dr. Beth Nasiforo MUKARWEGO, Chairperson of NUDOR, and Mrs. Olive SAFARI, Country Manager of Miracle Corners Rwanda, officiated the signing ceremony, attended by staff members from both organizations.

Explaining the significance of the collaboration, Mr. NSENGIYUMVA Jean Damascene, Executive Secretary of NUDOR, emphasized the importance of leveraging Miracle Corners Rwanda's expertise to facilitate access to education and technical skills training for children and youth with disabilities in Bugesera District.

Mrs. Olive SAFARI highlighted Miracle Corners Rwanda's ongoing efforts in providing technical skills training to youth with disabilities in the district, with plans to expand educational opportunities further. She emphasized the value of NUDOR's expertise in disability inclusion, which will contribute to ensuring accessible and inclusive learning environments for all.

The MoU outlines several areas of cooperation between NUDOR and Miracle Corners Rwanda, including:

  • Supporting youth with disabilities in accessing vocational training in trades such as Information Computer Technology and Tailoring.
  • Providing tool-kits to graduates with disabilities from professional technical training.
  • Following up and monitoring the progress of graduates with disabilities in vocational trades.
  • Collaborating in promoting the culture of reading and leisure among young people with disabilities.
  • Conducting community awareness sessions to advocate for the abilities, needs, and rights of persons with disabilities.
  • Joining efforts in resource mobilization for extending interventions and support to persons with disabilities.

Miracle Corners Rwanda's program focuses on technical skills development, emphasizing Information Computer Technology and Tailoring, complemented by English literacy training and soft skills development. Through these initiatives, MCR aims to equip youth with disabilities holistically, enabling them to achieve educational success, improved health outcomes, and economic security.

The collaboration between NUDOR and Miracle Corners Rwanda underscores the collective commitment to promoting disability inclusion and creating pathways to economic independence for persons with disabilities in Rwanda.
